What Happens to Your Data When You Leave a Gym?

Every membership eventually ends: you move, the gym closes, the price goes up, life changes. When it does, you take your shoes and your bag. But what happens to the other thing you built there, your training history?

The uncomfortable default

In most gyms, the answer is nothing good. The records of your sessions live in the gym's register, the trainer's notebook, or a piece of software the gym pays for. They were collected about you, but they were never really yours. Leave, and the history stays behind, useful to no one, invisible to you. Your next gym starts you from a blank intake form as if the last two years never happened.

FitHit's answer: nothing happens

In FitHit, leaving a gym changes nothing about your data, because the data was never the gym's. Every workout you log, every record, your diet history and your progress trends live on your Fitness ID, which belongs to you. The gym had access because you granted it. End the relationship and their access ends; your history does not move, because it was with you the whole time.

Access is a switch in your hands

Sharing in FitHit is consent-based and specific. You invite a trainer or connect a gym; they see your data only after you approve. You can turn that access off anytime in Settings, for any reason, with no phone call and no exit interview. Revoking access does not delete your history and does not punish you for leaving. It simply closes a door that was always yours to close.

Why this should be the norm

Your fitness data is a record of your body and your effort. The default in the industry, where it quietly belongs to whichever business collected it, exists because members never had an alternative. A portable Fitness ID is that alternative: your history follows you to every gym, trainer and city for the rest of your training life, and every access decision is yours. That is the product FitHit is building, and early access is open on the homepage.

Frequently asked questions

Who owns my workout data? In most gym systems, effectively the gym or its software vendor. In FitHit, your logs live on your personal Fitness ID and gyms or trainers see them only with your approval.

How do I stop a gym or trainer from seeing my data? In FitHit, open Settings and revoke their access. It takes effect for future viewing; your own history stays intact with you.

Does deleting my gym membership delete my FitHit history? No. Your history is tied to your Fitness ID, not to any membership. It survives every gym switch.
