Trainer-to-Trainer Handover: A Practical Checklist

Share only useful information the client has agreed to transfer, through an appropriate secure route. Switching trainers is not permission to forward an entire record.

Confirm the client's choice

Ask what the receiving trainer should know and verify the recipient. Explain purpose, information, route and limits before sharing. Membership or an introduction does not create blanket permission for health disclosures.

The ACSM assessment guidance emphasizes confidentiality and explaining data handling. This checklist is professional guidance, not Indian legal advice or a guarantee about app settings.

Handover checklist

  1. Approved goal and current priorities.
  2. Current programme version and actual recent attendance.
  3. Exercises, loads, reps, effort and progression criteria with clear units.
  4. Relevant comfort issues and professional restrictions, stated factually.
  5. What worked, what was not tolerated and equipment preferences.
  6. Assessment method and date for agreed baseline measures.
  7. Open questions and the client's next-step preference.

Exclude unrelated private chats, payment information and other people's data. More information is not automatically a better handover.

Close carefully

Use the established secure process and confirm the intended recipient. Avoid open links for private data. Confirm receipt without unnecessarily repeating details. Retain or remove your records according to applicable obligations and agreed policy; do not invent a retention period.

The new trainer should reassess where needed, not treat a handover as current medical clearance. This article does not assert that a specific FitHit transfer or invite feature has been verified.

Common questions

Forward every client chat?
